By now many of you already know that Christina Aguilera will be releasing her new album "Bionic" on June 8th!! Her single "Not Myself Tonight" is #47 on the Billboard Hot 100 but could see a rise once she starts promoting more. Here we have the title track to the album "Bionic" which has just leaked in full. All together it makes for an interesting yet enjoyable effort. It's one of those albums where fans might need more then just one listen to get into. – Singer Estelle recently stated how much she would like to work with the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul, Mary J. Blige. Estelle was brought to the mainstream scene by both John Legend and Kanye West, and has seen a large amount of success since that time. When asked about how she felt about Blige, the singer revealed that she was a big fan of her music and stated that she would like to work with Blige in the future.

“I love her! I keep saying that,” Estelle stated. “I’ve been saying that for a year now, so at some point it’s gonna’ happen.”
She is currently working on her third studio album, entitled “All of Me.” She said that she considers Blige to be her inspiration and role model for all of the revolutionary work that Blige had done earlier in her career.
“She’s the reason I sing,” Estelle said. Quite the compliment.

She recently met Blige for the first time in a nightclub in London. It has been reported that she was so moved by the encounter that she actually cried while meeting Blige. She was surprised to find that Blige not only knew who Estelle was, but was actually a fan of her music.

Both singers are known for taking on real life relationship issues in their songs. Many have said that Estelle sings with a style that is similar to that of Blige’s. Her latest admissions only further the rumor that Estelle borrowed a large portion of her style from the famed singer.

Ne-Yo Beautiful Monster:New Song To Premiere In June 2010

– Ne-Yo will be making his return to the R&B scene in the coming weeks, according to recent reports. The release of his next album, that is yet-to-be-titled has been set for June. The album had previously been slated for a September release, but it is clear that the singer would like to capitalize on the rush of purchases that are usually associated with June music releases; just in time for summer! Ne-Yo has been busy in his off time, writing songs for a number of high profile artists. The singer started his career as a writer, but later would go on to release his own music, much in the same vein as Lady Gaga.

The cover art for the first single called Beautiful Monster was recently released. The cover is much more dark and grim than his previous art works, and it is not currently clear if the change in tone will also reflect his music, although reports have said that that is highly likely. In a recent interview, Ne-Yo also told reporters that he was working on his own film script, in hopes that he would be able to find funding to make the movie.

He said that many of the songs on his album were inspired by the script that he has been writing.
“I developed a script and I’m in the process of getting a Hollywood studio to turn it into a movie,” Ne-Yo said in the interview. “My album is a series of songs inspired by the script that I wrote, but it’s not a musical.”

– When any music legend looks like they are going down hill, there is no doubt that it dents the industry. Next in line is Janet Jackson, a singer that has spent nearly 30 years producing records. Throughout this period of time she has managed to sell a huge 100 million records on a world wide basis, establishing herself as one of the most popular female singers of all time.

Unfortunately, according to recent reports, she has decided to cease producing albums for the future. Her ex-boyfriend Jermaine Dupri had a few words to say about the news release, suggesting that Janet had mentioned a few times that there was simply no real opportunity as far as producing albums is concerned these days.

Mary J. Blige We Got Hood Love Music Video Official Premiere Ft. Trey Songz

– Well, that was fast, instead of waiting for Monday Mary J. Blige has decided to premiere the music video for her latest single called “We Got Hood Love” on BET today. “We Got Hood Love” features Trey Songz and is set to be Blige’s third US single from off her “Stronger with Each Tear” CD.

The Chris Robinson-directed clip is well done and tells the cliche tales of hood love which is basically a woman naive enough to believe that her cheating and abusive man will change, so like a clueless child she sticks around to endure the constant pain, shame and drama.

For someone who is always talking about her own struggles with men I am disappointed Mary did not convey a more positive message in this clip.

Britney Spears - Telephone (Demo)

As many of you already know Lady GaGa's hit single "Telephone" was originally going to be for Britney Spears. Gaga wrote the track for Spears and it was produced by Rodney Jerkins. Spears obviously turned the track down and GaGa put it on "The Fame Monster." Here we have what is said to be Britney's demo of "Telephone" but it is questionable. What do you guys think? Is it real or fake?

UPDATE: Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins has confirmed that it is real. It's a very very early rough demo.

It took me forever to get this post up but here goes. 23 year-old singer/songwriter/producer Bruno Mars will be releasing his debut album later this year. He currently holds the #1 spot on the Billboard 100 with B.o.B's single "Nothin' On You." It also looks like he may have another hit on his hands with the Travie McCoy "Billionaire" quickly climbing the charts and is currently #41. In the meantime Mars will be releasing his very first EP titled "It’s Better If You Don’t Understand" on May 11th! Here is another new artist that I have really been enjoying lately. Mike Posner is a 22 year-old singer/songwriter/producer who is getting ready to release his debut album later this summer! Beyonce And Jay-Z Moving To Pennsylvania

– Beyonce and Jay-Z will be no longer living in New York City, and instead will move to rural Pennsylvania. The two wed several months ago after having been together for several years. Their ceremony was captured by several aerial photographers as they sailed above the venue; the top of a skyscraper in New York. Now, it appears that the couple is looking for something other than the city life that they have been accustomed to. Reportedly, the two bought a multi-million dollar house in secluded acres in eastern Pennsylvania. The story started off as an Internet rumor, but has attracted a large amount of attention to Schuyllkill County, Pennsylvania.

The rumors grew legs after Beyonce was spotted at several businesses in the area. Those businesses include Boyer’s supermarket and Heisler’s dairy bar. Jay-Z has also been spotted driving a black Lamborghini around the town. Their arrival in the small town has many of their fans excited to catch a glimpse of them, even provoking two fans to drive up to the gate outside of their house in hopes that they will be able to get a look at the two Grammy award winning artists.

“I’m gonna tell everyone I’m their neighbors. It’s inside!” said Shilling, who is 20 years old.
It seemed far fetched that Jay-Z and Beyonce would be moving to such a rural area of Eastern Pennsylvania. The house that they supposedly bought was listed at $11.9 million, and features 16,000 square feet of living space. The house also has wonderful views of several mountains and other natural beauty in the area.

– Chris Brown the fighter singer who punched Rihanna sings National Anthem prior to Mosley Mayweather Fight is the headline going around on various blogs today.This time around HBO made sure to have all the fighters attend the event even before the Mayweather-Mosley fight. Something else that was done differently this time was having guest star Chris Brown sing the National Anthem before things began. This has left people wondering what on earth HBO could have possibly been thinking. HBO clearly couldn’t have made a worse decision than to choose Chris Brown to sing the National Anthem.
While the National Anthem serves as a song that represents the country and it’s protection by our allies and our men, Americans in the United States are clearly against men who beat up women. HBO openly invited Chris Brown to sing the National Anthem and they endorsed his presence. This was just before the Shane Mosley and Floyd Mayweather fight began. Judging by the reaction from the audience and fans, this was not the right thing for HBO to do and it’s easy to understand why.
I think featuring Rihanna singing the National Anthem would have been much better. Everyone knows that Chris Brown beat up Rihanna and repeatedly punched her in the face while the two were in a car together. She was left battered and bruised and now we let a man like that sing National Anthems at publicized events?

World Cup 2010 to Kick Off with Concert in Johannesburg

In a little more than a month (see countdown widget below), the World Cup (a.k.a the greatest sporting event in the world) will commence. Having personally attended a match (Ireland vs. Italy at Giants Stadium on June 18, 1994), I can attest that there is nothing that comes close to experiencing the World Cup live. I really love this song, but this video doesn't do it for me. I don't really like the shaky camera work makes it hard to actually see what is going on. We hardly even get some clear shots of Alexandra singing.

I want more of the dance sequence!! It looked so cool.

Another week of American Idol goes by another set of studio recordings. For those of you who didn't know I did NOT post the Top 7's studio recordings because all proceeds went to Idol Gives Back. Drake - Find Your Love

Drake will finally be releasing his debut album "Thank Me Later" on June 15th!! His first single "Over" has already peaked to #17 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #6 on the Hip-Hop/R&B chart. Eminem - Not Afraid

As you may already know rapper Eminem has ditched plans of releasing "Relapse II" and instead is moving forward with "Recovery" due out June 22nd!! The reason for the title name change is that he felt "The music on Recovery came out very different from Relapse, and I think it deserves its own title." Here we have the official first single titled "Not Afraid" produced by Boi-1da. It looks like Eminem is ready to overcome everything he has been threw over the last couple of years. Loved all the different looks and Christina is looking super super hot. Just seemed like there was a lot going on and it all happened really fast. I would have liked to see more of the dance routine. Fantasia Bittersweet New Song

– Fantasia has a new song called “Bittersweet” that leaked this week. The track is very old-school/Real RnB sounding with the American Idol winner breaking down with a very soulful on how she regrets letting her lover go. Fanny sounds great on the record but it is not going to give her the big comeback she is looking for.

Bittersweet is the first single (very bad idea) of the singer’s untitled CD due out sometimes this year.
In related news VH1 has announced that Miss Barrino will be back on your TV screens in Season 2 of “Fantasia For Real” which will premiere in the Summer/Fall 2010.

Kem Why Would You Stay?

– R&B/soul singer Kem has a beautiful new song called “Why Would You Stay?” which surfaced recently.
“Why Would You Stay?” is a soulful track where he talks about being a fool to a girl and later begging for her forgiveness.The song will be featured on the artist’s upcoming CD called “Intimacy” which is the follow-up to his 2005’s “Album II” CD. Kem chat with Billboard about the upcoming CD saying:

“Shows my evolution as a songwriter and a producer.I’m know for making love songs.so we thought we’d explore that word, that idea — not only sensual intimacy but the true meaning of relationships and opening yourself up to somebody and allowing them to do the same with you.So the song ‘Mother’s Love’ is about maternal intimacy between a mother and child. There are spiritual love songs on the album, too. Life is about relationships — good, bad or indifferent. That’s what we will be exploring on this new album.”

Esmée Denters Love Dealer Music Video Official Premiere Ft. Justin Timberlake

– Esmée Denters has premiered a music video for her song called “Love Dealer” featuring Justin Timberlake. Justin co-produced “Love Dealer” with Stargate and co-wrote it with Esmee. Timberlake signed Denters (a Dutch singer who used to sell pancakes) after having her videos viewed by millions on Youtube.

The clip was put together by The Malloys and Justin is hoping to export his protegee to the US of A seeing that she released her debut CD entitled “Outta Here,” in Europe last spring.

– Rihanna will be showing off her legs in her upcoming video for her song “Te Amo.” The video was shot in Paris on Thursday, April 29. The clip will be directed by Anthony Mandler. Mandler has directed over a dozen of Rihanna’s other videos, including some of her most popular like “Russian Roulette” and “Disturbia.”
“Thanks to all of Rihanna’s fans for the long list of suggestions,” Mandler recently tweeted. “We’re gonna follow our instincts and give you guys something special.”

Late Night Sounds: Top 5 On TV (Apr 26-30)

This week’s batch of late night musical moments takes us on a breakneck journey from the sublime to the surreal, as street-savvy punk rock makes its way to Broadway, cult-hero indie-poppers go for the brass ring, grunge-era icons return for better or worse, and singer/songwriters brush shoulders with grand-scale popmeisters. It all flickered across your TV screen at one point or another over the last few days, but now you can catch up on what you missed.

Dr. Dog – Jimmy Kimmel Live (April 28, 2010)

Wait a minute, when did Beck start singing with Dr. Dog? Oh, sorry, just a momentary case of mistaken identity there. In any case, everybody’s favorite indie-rock mutts seem to be ready for the big moment in the sun they’ve spent the last few years building up to. Not only have they ironed all the wrinkles out of their sound, they’ve gotten all spiffed up — check out that tighty whitey t-shirt on the bass player, that alone probably took hours of preparation before it was camera-ready. But seriously, there was a time when seeing Dr. Dog on network TV would have been strictly a pipe dream, so it’s nice to see the Dog getting their props these days.

Hole – Late Show With David Letterman (April 27, 2010)

So this is what we waited 12 years for? Judging from some of the bootleg versions of Nobody’s Daughter that have been circulated around over the last year or two, this kind of rote grunge redux wasn’t even on the original agenda, but nevertheless, here it is. If a new band put out a debut single that sounded this uninspired, it would get remaindered so fast it’d make your head spin. Kudos to the ever-caustic Letterman for inquiring about Courtney’s scruffy-looking, generic decadent-rocker-dude bandmates and commenting “I’d like to see the paperwork on those guys.”

OK Go – Late Show With David Letterman (April 28, 2010)

Making up for the sartorial sins of Courtney Love’s backup guys (yeah, sure, they’re a band) the night before, OK Go is an act that knows how to dress — look at those suits! They even go so far as to dress up the stage with a batch of background singers. Of course, the extra vocalists also contribute to the larger-than-life sound they deliver here, which builds up nicely over the course of the song till it reaches a big, booming climax. Post-performance, Letterman also seems oddly taken with the drum kit.

Aqualung – Tonight Show with Jay Leno (April 28, 2010)

Stop calling Matt “Aqualung” Hales the indie-pop Elton John! It’s just not fair, for one thing, and for another, we prefer to think of him more as the unplugged Thomas Dolby, what with all his fanciful lyrics and elegantly arcing melodies. Just because he sings softly and pounds a piano, that doesn’t automatically put him on a par with the weak-kneed likes of The Fray, you know. Listen closely here, this guy not only writes actual songs, with memorable lyrics and everything, but he knows how to arrange them and put them across.

Broadway Cast of American Idiot – Late Show With David Letterman (April 29,, 2010)

Is this what hippies back in the Age of Aquarius felt like the first time they saw Hair? It’s hard to know whether to laugh, cry, or check oneself into a mental hospital for some rehab after seeing even a few moments of this surreal cultural phenomenon. That’s not to say that it’s “bad” per se — in fact, the band does a pretty good job of approximating Green Day’s pop-punk roar. But wouldn’t these theater brats be just as happy, if not better off, staffing a revival of West Side Story somewhere? The real mind-boggler of course, is the fact that Green Day themselves had to sign off on this.

Them Crooked Vultures Are Born

During Lollapalooza weekend in Chicago, most of the hottest shows in Chicago haven't been in Grant Park, but rather in the Chi-town clubs.
Like Saturday night, when we made our maiden voyage to Schuba's Tavern, where Black Keys singer-guitarist Dan Auerbach slayed a lucky crowd with tunes from his solo debut, Keep It Hid.
But last night's show at the Metro was truly special: the debut of the supergroup Them Crooked Vultures -- featuring Dave Grohl, Josh Homme and John Paul Jones.
We were tipped off last week when Grohl texted us to make sure we'd be in town on Sunday night. Without spoiling the surprise, he told us to come to the Metro on Sunday at midnight. Then we saw the ad that appeared on the Metro site, featuring the logos of the Foo Fighters, Zeppelin and Queens of the Stone Age. Holy shit, we thought.
But nobody had any idea what to expect at the gig. The trio, joined by QOTSA guitarist Alain Johannes, walked onstage to the tune of Chuck Berry's "No Particular Place To Go." Then they slayed the crowd for 75-minutes -- no encores -- with songs nobody's ever heard. Homme sang, Grohl played drums, and JPJ stuck mostly to the bass -- a couple times he jumped on keyboards, keytar, or picked up a crazy, futuristic slide guitar.

Never has a supergroup sounded more like the sum of its parts. Grohl never spoke to the crowd, but his galloping drums recalled both Nirvana and the Foos. Homme's vocals (and songwriting, we would guess) were dark and heavy, with those crazy melodic and rhythmic shifts. And JPJ, who was sripping with sweat by the end of it, thumped along like he was onstage again with Zep.
After the show everyone partied backstage. We had a shot of Crown Royal with Grohl, who was totally exhausted after the gig (and the five hour rehearsal the day before.) We learned that Them Crooked Vultures have been kicking around for six months. The idea began with Grohl and JPJ (who have been buddies for a while now) and then they recruited Homme. There will be an album AND a U.S. tour. Believe it!
The show is insane! And the boys were so stoked. To quantify how excited they were, let us share with you a texting exchange that went down yesterday afternoon..
S.S.: Hey Dave, I just got my first boner about the show tonight!
Grohl: I've had one of those everlasting boners that they warn you about on the Viagra commercials for the past 6 months.
S.S.: You should notify your physician
Grohl: No worries. It'll go down once I blow my load all over the Metro.


Last night, everyone at the Metro blew their proverbial load.

We were absolutely thrilled when the dudes from Deer Tick recently dropped by the S.S. The quartet from Providence, Rhode Island -- led by John McCauley -- released Born On Flag Day in June, and it's definitely one of our favorite records of the year.
For your pleasure they treated us to a cover of Eddie Cochran's '58 classic, "Summertime Blues."
Then, McCauley duetted with his touring buddy Liz Isenberg, on the Flag Day cut "Friday the 13th."
